e-gnition Hamburg has wrapped up a successful Formula Student season. Following competitions in the Czech Republic and Austria, the season finale at the Hockenheimring marked the highlight: At Formula Student Germany 2026, the team from the Technical University of Hamburg prevailed against strong international competition in the driverless disciplines and secured the overall victory in the Driverless Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
Precision Right Down to the Last Lap
The egn26 autonomous race car demonstrated its capabilities right from the start in the first driverless disciplines. After placing 7th in the Driverless Acceleration and 4th in the Driverless Skidpad, the decisive discipline finally arrived: the Driverless Trackdrive.
The egn26 had to complete ten laps autonomously—fast, consistently, and as error-free as possible. That’s exactly what it did: Without touching a single cone, e-gnition brought the race car across the finish line and secured victory in the Driverless Trackdrive. Shortly thereafter, it became clear that the cumulative results were also enough for first place in the Driverless Cup.
For e-gnition Hamburg, this marks the first Driverless Cup victory in the club’s history at Formula Student Germany.

There’s much more to a Formula Student race car than just vehicle construction. Electronics, software, sensors, and autonomous driving systems must be developed, manufactured, and made to work reliably together under real-world conditions.
